A swirl of chaos spins across the room –
Doors open, a phone rings, a drink is spilt on the carpet
And as suddenly is gone, leaving us breathless,
Irritated, flabbergasted …
As crazy as those times when,
Driving through town,
For a quarter of a mile cars career about,
Overtake, don’t signal, sound their horns …
God’s hand spinning a finger lazily
Through the liquid of our lives,
Sending mini-vortices of confusion
Across the planet’s surface,
Even through my front room.
October 2001
Life is more than we imagine
