Ferdie was a pit bull

Ferdie was a pit bull,
With a face like squashed-up beef –
His owner washed his coat each day,
And polished up his teeth.

Ferdie was a pit bull,
Kept guard behind a gate –
He watched the little children
Without an ounce of hate.

Ferdie was a pit bull,
He chewed on stainless steel –
The kids all thought Ferdie was nice,
Ferdie knew he was REAL.

Ferdie was a pit bull,
Just doin’ what pit bulls do –
He growled when Johny hit his head
Then bit his arm clean through.

Ferdie was a pit bull,
Snarling in a rage,
A wolf in pit bull’s clothing
Hid behind his stark eye-cage.

Ferdie was a pit bull,
Liked the the taste of meat –
Little Johny’s screaming
Echoed down the street.

Ferdie was a pit bull,
Pit bulls like to eat –
Ferdie started at the top
Then finished at the feet.

Ferdie was a pit bull,
They bashed his head with sticks –
Sticks don’t work on pit bulls
So they finished him off with bricks.

Ferdie was a pit bull,
His owner came home late –
A silent crowd was waiting
And their eyes were filled with hate.

The papers ran a story,
How little Johny died –
It wasn’t for poor Johny though
That Ferdie’s owner cried.

You have to have a license to own a Pit Bull in the UK, and it must always be muzzled in public.

Too many children have been mauled by ordinary household pets owned by irresponsible owners.

I was really disappointed with your Ferdie poem, and really would like to ask you to reconsider your opinions. As a owner of several “pitbulls” , and with experience with the breed personally http://www.flickr.com/photos/vivid_crystal/sets/72157603462863309/ I feel you are passing out a dangerous opinion.
All dogs have the potential to be dangerous. Pin pointing one breed of dog is dangerous stereotyping. We lived next door to a guy with a golden retriever, and I was almost bit by it. This is the type of dog everyone considers to be “safe”.
I was bit in the face by a dashund as a child, very close to my eye, so I know how traumatic that even a small dog bite can be, this is why I do believe that if a dog bites, it should be put down. No dogs life is more important then a humans.
All I ask is to replace your poem with something that doesn’t specifically target pitbulls. They are already the most abused dog breed by humans, do we really need to further abuse them.

Is that poem sayin tht all pitbulls are evil then thats a bunch of rubbish because i had 2 pitbulls and they had a heart of gold they never heart anyone and on my 13th birthday they were taken away by the antrim council.

Owners train dogs 2 fight dogs just have to live that way and they get punished not the owners
so this pure breed us humans pick on cause they are a strong dog is gonna end !!
R.I.P All Pitbulls xo

I absolutly hate this Poem. You have the story all wrong Pitbuls are only mean and scary because of the human that trained them to be. Pitbuls are one of the most affectionet dogs and well obedient. I hate that you think Pitbuls are mean and “Eat People”. You are sending out a horible signale to people who do not know about Pitbuls and now they will dislike them also. Millions of Pitbuls die in shelters because people think the way you do.

That is so mean pit bulls are beautiful creatures.

It’s been proven pitbulls are not aggressive by nature. They are actually affectionate playful dogs. It’s the owners who trin them to be violent. Man is the real beast.

There’s nothing inherently bad about pitbulls, and to say so is wrong. Any dog can be trained to be vicious, and any dog can be trained to be loyal and gentle.

All dogs have the potential to go haywire. A haywire Pitbull is worse than many other dogs because of their sheer power and tenacity. Haywire Pitbulls / Staffs (both powerfully-built dogs) were regularly reported as going haywire by the British press. ‘Oh, he’s never done anything like that before etc. etc.’ said the owners.

Maybe the UK attitude to Pitbulls is different to that in other countries, but once you’ve read one account of how a child has been savaged by a Pitbull you tend to get a bit cold hearted.

Yahoo Answers about Pitbulls

QUOTE
The dog must be registired in the dangerouse dog index, it has to be nutuerd, microchipped, tattooed and insured. The dog shall never be bred, and you can never sell or exchange the dog or offer, advertise or expose the dog for sale. That also inclusdes making the dog a gift, or advertise the dog as a gift. To walk the dog in a public place it should be muzzled and kept on lead at all time. You can never abandon the dog or allow it to stray.

I love pit bulls use to have one of my own i kno some are bac but they are treating all pitbull like they did Fredie even when some dont do any thing wrong but i dont think any dog mostly the pit bull dont hav to suffer all the problems the others hav…

Thats not fair. I beleive that you can teach a maltese puppy to be meean and agressive. I beleive that its the owner thats agressive not thae dog. please don’t say things like that about pits. I love my Pit Bull and she would never ever hurt anyone. unless they hurt me and thats because she loves me. I beleive that a lab would protect their owner. any dog would.

Pitbulls do not have vice like jaws. Their jaws are like any other dogs jaws. It is their no quit attitude that allows them to grab hold and not let go of things even if painful.

Pit bulls are not aggressive or bloodthirsty by nature. The nature of the dog is not the problem, but the nature of many of the humans that buy them and teach them to be vicious or unstable. With a stable loving and structured environment, Pit bulls actually flourish and are excellent family dogs. The fact is, most pit bulls are abused, neglected chained up and taught bad habits by owners who are either sadistic or just ignorant of how to care for a big dog. Pitbulls are no more prone to harm humans than a pellet gun is prone to hurt someone versus a shotgun. The only difference is, when put in the wrong hands, a shotgun can do more damage than a pellet gun, but it still relies on the person who pulls the trigger. More over, the reason that pit bulls are used for dog fighting and other horrible atrocities, like abuse, is because they were bred to love humans. Pitbulls will take in extraordinary amount of abuse from people and still want to please and show affection. The problem with pitbulls is much like the problem with guns, or cars. They often kill people, but only because the WRONG person gets ahold of one.

People are evil, people feel hate, people abuse and misuse each other and animals, dogs don’t. they are just dogs. It’s people that are to blame not dogs.

It’s really pretty sad to see so many ignorant people out there who find it easier to blame a whole breed and say they are dangerous than to admit that humans are really the problem. Its OUR fault, not pitbulls’

*******Admin ******
Nicely put, but are you saying a Chihuana is no more dangerous than a pit bull? Pit bulls are solid chunks of muscle and have vice-like jaws – that alone makes them dangerous.

As for the pellet gun / shotgun analogy, how does that stand up? In the UK we recognise that shotguns are dangerous and you have to have a licence to own them; pellet guns (airguns?) can be owned by anyone over 17. It’s disingenuous IMO to go down the route ‘guns don’t kill people, people kill people.’ (Yeah, right). Whether someone is nice or nasty, the fact that someone walks around with a shotgun makes them dangerous. Ditto someone walking around with a pitbull.

Also note that the poem very definitely ISN’T about ‘good’ dog owners, but about the sort of dog owner that tends to hate humans / love animals

Ferdie doesn’t sound like a ” Pit bull ” at all . Ferdie sounds like an English Bulldog . I am sorry u feel that way about this breed – I am sorry you don’t know the Truth , but are u willing to learn ? If not – I am sorry for ur Ignorance. Because if you don’t know is 1 thing – but if u are unwilling to learn is another. LoL (rereading ur poem) why is the dog chewing on the stainless steel ?? Bcuz the Irresponsible owner has it chained up it’s whole life w/ out Socializing or Training the Dog ??? Now who is really to blame for that . Come on, if Humans are really the Smarter Being – why don’t we Act like it . We are the Animals – that Train this and other breeds to fight – We are the Animals who Kill this breed – We are the Animals who Starve and Tourture this these dogs.

*****Admin*******Probably true, but these animals are quite capable of turning into killers with or without human help **************

I think people sound stupid when they call Pit Bulls viscious all animals can bite and hurt someone I have met some of the smallest dogs that are more viscious than my pit. it’s really sad how no where allows pits if people could only see how sweet and loyal they were..

pitbulls are nice creatures, just because some are bad doesn’t mean they all are. any animal can bite or kill. humans created the dog to be strong for fighting, and thats not all they are good for, they are good animals it’s just how they are raised and treated, if you were a dog you wouldn’t like to be hurt, tied up, hungry and just fight all day or even left to die, and in order to tell someone you don’t like something they bite and bark because they can’t talk to tell you whats really on their mind.
